The Immigrant

Theresa Hambsch arrived in America carrying the experiences of another country and another time.

Late in life, as new immigrant families arrived in her neighborhood, she shared a lesson I never forgot:

"They are no different than we were, Stevie. They are just a different color."

She reminded me that every generation arrives differently, but all are searching for the same thing:

A place to belong.
